Massif Central

Rich and I are in a pretty good rhythm to our travel right now. We have a good routine down pat. We stay in each town for three nights and so far it has been the perfect amount of time. I'm sure this will vary as we continue traveling, but so far, so good.

Our time in France's Massif Central was enjoyable. It felt almost like home here with it's pine forests and hiking trails. It is super hilly here! We were surrounded by trails and took advantage of it. We could pretty much hop in the car, drive around a bit and find a great trail. The whole area is mountainous and green.

One of the neatest things about this region is how volcanic it is. We found a crater lake nearby in the countryside and spent one morning hiking around it. It was so neat looking! Some areas you could really tell it was a crater.

Our third day in the Massif Central region was rainy so we...went to Ikea!! It felt like home! Even though we don't have one in Rochester :)  There was one fairly close so we went for a cheap lunch and to walk around. Afterwards we realized we were close to Le Puy de Dome, the largest volcano mountain in France! Of course we had to go. We drove over and decided to just hike until we felt like being done and then head home. We kept telling ourselves ten more minutes, ten more minutes... until we finally reached the peak! It was majestic. Such a beautiful view, you could see the entire region and all of the surrounding mountains. The weather was pretty crazy at the top- pouring rain and so cold and windy. The walk down the mountain was much more comfortable than going up. When we got back to our airbnb we made lentil soup for dinner and had a cozy night in with sore legs. This was truly an enjoyable region.
