Los Angeles, California AKA Taco Tour

Los Angeles was great. That glorious dry heat. It was wonderful. Plus we got to hang out with Zack! He showed us a great time and had tons of tips for things to do/places to eat. There are tons of pictures in this post because well...blue skies in January.
We spent one day checking out beaches. We went to Venice beach and Santa Monica. They were freaky and super fun. There were so many street musicians and food stands. We also checked out the Venice canals neighborhood. It was so beautiful! I think it was a perfect example of why I love the West Coast: A super nice neighborhood, where you obviously have to be a richy-rich BUT it is filled with wildly colored houses, plastic pink flamingos and animal shaped boats in the canal. Anything goes. Totally unpretentious.
Next up: Downtown day! Zack showed us a great time downtown- we went to The Last Bookstore, the downtown public library (beautiful), stole a rooftop city view from a fancy restaurant, went to the central market for lunch, angel city brewery and Little Tokyo. The central market is a huge area filled with all different restaurants. New goal: eat my way through central market. Oh! And while we were downtown we stumbled into a restore broadway festival! All the old theaters were opened up for touring and shows. We popped into one and it was stunning. A really cool experience.
Going to the Griffith Observatory is a must do! It was so beautiful. I think one of the most special parts of it is the hiking surrounding. We went at dusk and it was just...really special. I wimped out pretty fast but am hoping to do a early morning/picnic hike there someday.
We also hit up the Getty Villa (worth visiting!) and took a lot of walks around the neighborhood to Echo Park and Silver Lake Reservoir. The landscape is awesome.
LA highlights: Tacos (Guisados, my heart), murals on tons of buildings, the best thrift store ever (5$ boots), food in general. There are so many good eats in Los Angeles. I'm pumped to go back to do the things we missed out on (there is so much to do!), eat plenty more amazing Mexican food and update my wardrobe with that awesome thrift store.

Thanks for showing us a great time, Zack! Everyone should totally check out Zack's super fun super informative Zack's Tours.
Oh yeah! And we went out for Vietnamese one night and Sally Field was sitting at the table next to us. That was definitely a highlight.

  1. I see you hit all of my favorite spots and then some! I love Venice Beach (I want that pink flamingo boat), Getty Villa, Griffith Observatory, Echo Park, The Last Bookstore, the downtown public library, Little Tokyo, that thrift store. I have not been to central market yet, nor did I see that amazing shrubbery dinosaur behind you in the pic. You look fabulous in your pics!
