Limoux, France- The Languedoc Region

Limoux proved to be the perfect waypoint between Bordeaux and Provence. Driving from Bordeaux straight to our next destination, Provence would just be a really long, unpleasant drive. Limoux ended up being just what we needed!

We stayed in a tiny caravan in the countryside! In the middle of a truffle farm, across the street from an olive grove! I'm not making this stuff up! It was sunny and hot out when we arrived. Our host left us a bottle of local rose champagne. We made grilled chicken salads for dinner and ate/drank outside. It was a great evening.

This is what we call a truffle farm. The trees encourage truffle growth. Too bad we didn't find any

One amazing aspect of this region is how bountiful it is. Everywhere you turn, there is food growing. Oregano growing between the cracks of the sidewalks, fig trees EVERYWHERE (and loaded with ripe figs!), anise, olives, grape vines, pomegranites. The landscape was covered in produce. It was pretty neat.

This is what fresh olives look like. They are insanely bitter picked off the tree. Lesson learned.

Our second day in Limoux was spent in a nearby city, Carcassone. Here is a medieval walled city. It was beautiful! It's always fun going to places like these, even if they are a bit of a tourist trap. Pretty crazy to think about what it must have been like to be there in the 13th century.

Yup, my hair always looks like that.
Limoux felt like a chance for us to relax and slow down, even though we were there for only two nights.
