3 Nights in Dijon

City's center with carousel in background.

After Normandy, we traveled on to the Burgundy region in France, specifically Dijon. Yes, as in the mustard. Our first day we arrived mid afternoon and took the bus into the city center. It is beautiful! Very cute and filled with fun food shops. The area is known for it's traditional food and, of course, wine.
Our second day in Dijon we spent in the city center. Rich did a mustard tasting; there were literally mustards on tap! Very neat. Not my condiment of choice, but luckily there were honey and olive oil tastings as well. Wonderful.

It was sunny and breezy and perfect out. Along the ride we stopped and had the best meal I've had yet (I say this every time we go out to eat). But for real this time. We had lunch at La Rotisserie du Chambertin. I ordered the beef and Rich ordered the lamb but received the pork (no questions were asked!). THE BEEF WAS AMAZING. I've never tasted anything like it. I thought it couldn't get any better and then they brought out a potato gratin as well. When we get home I have to figure out how to make steak like this.

We're staying in a great Airbnb while in Dijon. It is spacious, has a full kitchen, and is a simple bus ride away to the center of the city. The best part of it though would have to be that it is right down the street from a lake/canal path in Dijon. We have been getting up and going for a walk down the canal, around the lake and back home each morning. It is beautiful, quiet and refreshing. A great way to start each day.
Our last day in Dijon was spent doing one of my favorite things...driving around the countryside! We took a day trip driving south of the city on the "Route des Grands Crus," a famous scenic and gastronomic driving route. It was incredible! The scenery was picture perfect. Vineyards as far as the eye can see with medieval towns between.

All in all, we had a great time in Dijon. The city's fun, touristy center was lively but not too crowded. The main drag was a pedestrian street, which is always fun. Driving outside of Dijon was a must-do for us. Definitely a highlight of the trip.

Next up: Massif Central (what I've deemed the Adirondacks of France).

Can't stop thinking about this beef
