Taupo, New Zealand

I sound like a broken record at this point. Taupo is a super tourist-y region in New Zealand (as a new friend said- you do have to go through it to go basically anywhere! It is very central). We stayed about 20 minutes from the main town, in a really peaceful setting. It was great to be so close to the hustle and bustle but have our own oasis. We were right next to the lake and near loads of trails (broken record). Everything was beautiful (broken record).
This is me being more bronze than I'd been in years. A couple days after this photo was taken (when I was even more tan) our host said I was so pale I probably burn very easily. That soda was like Lemon+Ice Tea carbonated!

Taupo was our last destination in New Zealand, besides one night in Auckland before we flew out. New Zealand is now so special to us. The funny landscape was like nothing we've ever seen, with bare hills jutting out of the earth everywhere. It was a pleasure driving through the rural spots (which was much of the drive). So stunning. Equally special were the people we met here. Never have I gone somewhere and felt so sad to say goodbye to friends made three days before! Everyone we met was so kind, so thoughtful and genuinely interested in having meaningful conversation. And funny. What a comfort.
