Delhi, India

We are finally getting to the around the world part of our trip. Delhi is intense! This was our second time in Delhi, but for some reason it felt like our first. A little overwhelming at first, but we kind of got into the rhythm of it by the time we left.

The people here are alarmingly kind, thoughtful and curious. For example- crossing the street. Sounds simple, but is actually an impossible task if you are a tourist. A stranger saw us standing (looking bewildered, I'm sure) and said Are you crossing? He proceeded to cross us across the street, across the four lanes of traffic being used as six, including a concrete barrier in the middle. When we made it across safely he turned around to go back to where he was.

We found a great oasis in South Delhi, in the Hauz Khas neighborhood. We originally went just for good coffee and by a happy accident found ourselves in this heaven:

It was beautiful. A mosque and tombs from the 1200s (I believe) in a gorgeous park. I think it is a popular hangout for students, based on what we saw.

The markets are filled with beautiful, unique handicrafts. It is tempting to do some major shopping, but everything we buy we have to carry! I definitely reined in the shopping this time.

We also enjoyed tons of good food- many paneer dishes and dosa. Delicious. We stayed at the same small hotel that we did the first time. It was fun to come back to Delhi and enjoy some familiar sites.
