After Rome brings us to one of the highlights of our trip...GREEK WEEK. No, I'm not talking about swallowing goldfish or getting sodomized by a potential fraternity brother. This is more of a Another Day, Another Gyro kind of Greek Week.
It was a blast walking all over the city and seeing the ruins. What was even more of a blast? Eating. The food is amazing. I woke up every morning salivating for gyros, lamb kebabs, grilled pita...anything Greek. The bakeries were beautiful as well. I made a real effort to get as much Baklava as I could.

We did have to fill up time between meals with doing stuff and there is a ton to do in Athens. We found an amazing open air market selling everything from jewelry and trinkets to olive oil and olive wood products. I loved checking these all out. The market was set up like a maze, so it felt like we got to see a lot of this part of the city too.
While we were in the city, Athens experienced terrible storms and flooding. Thankfully our area wasn't effected by it; just lots of rain. We didn't let it stop us from going out though! We ended up going to the acropolis and saved a ton of money on our tickets! We somehow scored a discounted rate of 10 Euros each, instead of 20. Again, the off season is a great time to travel. There were very few tourists there. I can't imagine how crazy the acropolis must be in the Summer.
It was surprisingly fascinating learning about the restoration process of the acropolis. Each year, or for several years, a new section is focused on. We wondered how different it would look if you came every 5 years, or every 10 years. I have no doubt that we will be back someday and I can't wait!
which was more amazing? the food or the ancient ruins?
